As part of the NHS Primary care recovery plan they have introduced Pharmacy First – previously CPCS, The difference being is the pharmacist will now be able to not only offer advice but issue a prescription if appropriate to you.
Patient are able to refer themselves to the pharmacist for any of the following 7 minor illnesses:
- Sinusitis -for adults and children ages 12 years and over
- Sore throat for adults and children aged 5 years and over;
- Acute otitis media for children aged 1 to 17 years;
- Infected insect bite for adults and children aged 1 year and over;
- Impetigo for adults and children aged 1 year and over;
- Shingles for adults aged 18 years and over; and
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women aged 16 to 64 years.
If you have one of the 7 listed issues above please contact one of the pharmacies either in town or at Wellbeing Pharmacy at the Health & Wellbeing Centre. The pharmacist will then follow the clinical pathway with you, you will be provided with advice and will be supplied, where clinically appropriate, a prescription-only treatment, or an over-the-counter medicine, all at NHS expense.
